Brand consistency is a major part of your business’s overall success. A strong brand is something that takes time to grow but, if done right, it’ll help you attract the right audience and help raise the overall profile and visibility of your business. And nowhere is that more important, than on social media.

If you want to increase your visibility on the different online social media platforms, you need to have a strong brand presence. It isn’t enough to be posting several times a day and firing out tweets on a regular basis, especially if you’re not building a consistent brand image across those postings. In fact, it could be doing more damage than good – if you aren’t visibly recognisable and able to stand out amongst the noise and bustle of those online social platforms!

"So, how can you ensure you’re staying brand consistent on social media?"

#1: Remember that branding is more than just a logo

Far too many business owners think that branding is primarily all about your logo and name. Yes, these are part of your branding profile, as are the colours and fonts you use, but they are part of branding package.

The words you use are equally important in your branding. Yes, your font styles need to be consistent, but so do the actual words you use, when composing your status updates and creating your graphics. Use wording that is relevant to your target market; wording they’d use to describe what solutions they’re after for the problems or issues they face – and use emotive wording that resonates with them too.

#2: Branding needs to be visually appealing too

Images, video and GIFS all contribute to your business brand. The visual material you use can be based on your branding colours or the sentiment you’re trying to portray. An image can often capture the essence of what we’re trying to say, simply and beautifully. When it comes to social media, visuals go a long way to connecting with your target audience. Not only are they more often shared, than text-based posts, they also have a higher reach and a lot more interaction too.

Creating an overarching branding style involves the use of colours, styles, icons and graphics, as well as the emotions and feelings you want your target audience to feel, when they interact with your brand. Your branding package is how you create a ‘WOW’ moment for your business –visually, textually and emotionally.

#3: Be aware of what you’re sharing

Another often overlooked area is that of content curation. When you’re sharing other people’s content, you need to ensure that it backs up your branding style, as well as your business ethics and values. Look at the content you’re sharing as your way of endorsing that company, product or service. So, is that endorsement a good fit for your business?

#4: Get active on your social media accounts

You could have a great visual brand, but if you’re not active on social media, people aren’t going to remember who you are and, often, the content you post is going to get lost in the crowd. If you want to be visibly appealing on social media – you need to be visible – and that means posting regularly and consistently.

#5: Plan out your branding

Your brand is your business personality, so make sure you’re clear on what you want that personality to be. What do you want a person to associate with your business? How do you want them to feel about your brand? When they think if your business, what do you want them to visualise? Having a clear view of your business branding will enable you to ensure you’re planning out a campaign that accurately portrays these things.

To ensure you’re being brand consistent, create yourself a simple branding profile. Use it to record the essential core elements of your branding – such as your logo and font types and sizes, but also words and images that accurately portray your brand. You can then use this as a crib sheet, before you create any online content, to ensure you’re staying consistent and on brand.
